Perception-based energy functions in seam-cutting

چکیده
Image stitching is challenging in consumer-level photography, due to alignment difficulties in unconstrained shooting environment. Recent studies show that seam-cutting approaches can effectively relieve artifacts generated by local misalignment. Normally, seam-cutting is described in terms of energy minimization, however, few of existing methods consider human perception in their energy functions, which sometimes causes that a seam with minimum energy is not most invisible in the overlapping region. In this paper, we propose a novel perception-based energy function in the seam-cutting framework, which considers the nonlinearity and the nonuniformity of human perception in energy minimization. Our perceptionbased approach adopts a sigmoid metric to characterize the perception of color discrimination, and a saliency weight to simulate that human eyes incline to pay more attention to salient objects. In addition, our seam-cutting composition can be easily implemented into other stitching pipelines. Experiments show that our method outperforms the seam-cutting method of the normal energy function, and a user study demonstrates that our composed results are more consistent with human perception.

Seam-Driven Image Stitching
Image stitching computes geometric transforms to align images based on the best fit of feature correspondences between overlapping images. Seam-cutting is used afterwards to to hide misalignment artifacts. Interestingly it is often the seam-cutting step that is the most crucial for obtaining a perceptually seamless result. This motivates us to propose a seam-driven image stitching strategy wher...
متن کاملOptimum Swept Angle Estimation based on the Specific Cutting Energy in Milling AISI 1045 Steel Alloy
Mechanical machining processes are common manufacturing strategies to re-shape materials to desired specification. The mechanistic approach has revealed the mechanics of the machining processes with various parameters determined. The aim of this work is to investigate the impact of swept angle optimization and their influence on the specific cutting energy in milling AISI 1045 steel alloy. This...
متن کاملL2GSCI: Local to Global Seam Cutting and Integrating for Accurate Face Contour Extraction
Current face alignment algorithms can robustly find a set of landmarks along face contour. However, the landmarks are sparse and lack curve details, especially in chin and cheek areas where a lot of concave-convex bending information exists. In this paper, we propose a local to global seam cutting and integrating algorithm (L2GSCI) to extract continuous and accurate face contour. Our method wor...
متن کاملSkeleton-Based Seam Computation for Triangulated Surface Parameterization
Mesh parameterization is a key problem in digital geometry processing. By cutting a surface along a set of edges (a seam), one can map an arbitrary topology surface mesh to a single chart. Unfortunately, high distortion occurs when protrusions of the surface (such as fingers of a hand and horses’ legs) are flattened into a plane. This paper presents a novel skeleton-based algorithm for computin...
متن کاملPhotophysics of fulvene under the non-resonant stark effect. Shaping the conical intersection seam.
We introduce a mechanistic strategy to control the excited state lifetime of fulvene based on shaping the topography of an extended seam of intersection with the non-resonant dynamic Stark effect. Fulvene has a very short excited state lifetime due to an energetically accessible seam of intersection which lies along the methylene torsion coordinate, and the initial decay occurs at the seam segm...
